Loss of accreditation

On August 28, 2008 the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) revoked accreditation for the Clayton County School District[5]. Clayton County Public Schools is the third school district in the United States to lose accreditation since 1969.

Clayton County Public Schools has provisional accreditation. A decision on full accreditation will be made in 2011. Members of the Clayton County Board of Education, Interim Superintendent Dr. Valya S. Lee and school district leadership were present during the announcement at a special press conference this afternoon at the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI) office in Decatur, Georgia.
